Keramikkondensaattorit are a type of capacitor that uses a ceramic material as its dielectric. They are widely used in electronic circuits due to their small size, low cost, and good performance characteristics. The dielectric material's properties determine the capacitor's electrical behavior, with different ceramic formulations offering varying capacitance values and temperature stability.

There are two main classes of ceramic capacitors. Class 1 capacitors, often called NP0 or C0G, offer excellent stability over temperature and voltage variations, making them suitable for applications where precision is critical, such as in timing circuits or filters. Class 2 capacitors, such as X7R or Y5V, provide higher capacitance values in smaller packages but exhibit greater changes in capacitance with temperature and applied voltage. These are typically used in decoupling and bypass applications where precise capacitance is not paramount.

The construction of a ceramic capacitor generally involves a ceramic disc or multilayered structure with conductive electrodes on opposite sides. These electrodes are typically made of silver or nickel. The dielectric properties of the ceramic, combined with the geometry and electrode materials, determine the capacitor's overall capacitance value and its voltage rating. They are commonly found in surface-mount device (SMD) packages, allowing for automated assembly on printed circuit boards. Their versatility and cost-effectiveness make them a staple component in almost all electronic devices.
