While many of these are rooted in observable feline ethology, the term often carries a touch of wonder and intrigue.

One common katveilmiö is the "zoomies" or "midnight madness," characterized by sudden bursts of energetic running and playing, typically occurring at odd hours. This is widely understood as a natural outlet for pent-up energy and a display of hunting instincts. Another frequently cited phenomenon is the cat's ability to seemingly appear out of nowhere, often leading owners to believe they have telepathic or precognitive abilities. This is more likely due to cats' acute hearing, stealthy movements, and their tendency to observe their surroundings from hidden vantage points.

The concept of cats having a "sixth sense" for predicting events like earthquakes or the arrival of guests is also part of katveilmiöt.
