Käyttäytymisanalyysit, or behavioral analysis, is a broad field encompassing the systematic study of behavior. It is often used in applied settings to understand and modify behavior. At its core, behavioral analysis assumes that behavior is learned and can be understood through its relationship with the environment. This relationship is typically examined through principles of learning, such as reinforcement, punishment, and conditioning.

The most well-known branch is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which uses these principles to address socially significant behaviors. ABA is frequently employed in areas like education, therapy for individuals with developmental disabilities (such as autism spectrum disorder), and organizational behavior management. The process typically involves defining the target behavior, collecting data on its occurrence, implementing an intervention based on behavioral principles, and then evaluating the effectiveness of that intervention.

Beyond ABA, behavioral analysis can also refer to more theoretical or experimental approaches. These might focus on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of learning and behavior in laboratory settings, often using animal models. The goal in these instances is to build a more comprehensive scientific understanding of behavior, which can then inform applied practices. Regardless of the specific application, a common thread is the emphasis on observable behavior and its environmental determinants, aiming for objective and measurable outcomes.
