Jänneankyypäin is a term originating from Finnish folklore, often associated with a specific type of malicious sprite or mischievous entity. While direct translations can be difficult, "jänne" can refer to a sinew or tendon, and "ankyypäin" might suggest something related to a curse or a binding. Together, the name evokes an image of a creature that could inflict physical ailments or misfortune through supernatural means, perhaps by tangling or twisting one's sinews.

These beings are typically described as small, often appearing in rural or wild settings. They are not usually depicted as overtly violent but rather as agents of minor torments and annoyances. Their actions could range from causing small accidents, such as tripping or dropping things, to more persistent troubles like inexplicable aches and pains.
