Unexplainable is an adjective used to describe phenomena, events, or experiences that cannot presently be explained using available evidence, theories, or methods. It signals a gap in current knowledge rather than an inherent impossibility. The term derives from un- (not) and explainable, and has appeared in English since the early modern period. In ordinary and scholarly use, unexplainable may inherit nuance from context: it can express genuine scientific uncertainty, or a subjective sense of mystery.
