Itseluottamuksen

Itseluottamus is Finnish for self-confidence—the belief in one's own abilities to perform tasks, cope with challenges, and act effectively. It is formed from itse (self) and luottamus (trust). The genitive itseluottamuksen is used when referring to the level, development, or absence of self-confidence, e.g., itseluottamuksen kehittyminen or itseluottamuksen puute. It is distinct from itsetunto, which denotes overall self-worth rather than task-specific competence.

In psychology, itseluottamus relates to, but is not identical with, self-efficacy. It generally reflects confidence in one's capabilities and influences willingness to take on challenges, persistence, and coping. High itseluottamus is associated with better performance in new tasks and resilience; low itseluottamus may accompany anxiety, avoidance, or self-criticism.
