The term blends "into" with "thermine," a playful nod to the idea of diving into cold conditions, though it is not an official scientific or medical term. This activity can range from brief cold showers to extended exposure in icy water, such as swimming in frozen lakes or engaging in winter sports like ice swimming or polar plunges.

Proponents of intotherminen often cite benefits such as increased alertness, improved circulation, and enhanced mental resilience. Cold exposure is believed to trigger the body’s natural stress response, releasing adrenaline and endorphins, which may contribute to feelings of well-being. Some also report improved sleep quality and reduced inflammation due to the physiological adaptations prompted by cold exposure.
