Inplantering

Inplantering, or implantation, is the process of placing a substance, tissue, or device inside a body or host where it will remain. In medical contexts it typically involves surgical or endoscopic insertion of an implant or graft. The term is used mainly in medicine and dentistry, but it can also describe experimental procedures in biology or, less commonly, the introduction of materials into plants or animals. In horticulture the act of placing a material inside a plant is more often described with terms such as grafting or transplantation, rather than inplantering.

Medical implants include pacemakers, cochlear implants, dental implants, orthopedic prostheses, and vascular or drug-delivery devices. Implantation aims to restore function, replace missing tissue, monitor physiology, or deliver therapy. The procedure requires sterile technique, anesthesia, and careful postoperative care. Some implants rely on osseointegration with bone tissue, others are enclosed devices. Regulatory approval and informed consent are essential, and long-term follow-up is common to monitor performance and complications.

Risks include infection, bleeding, device failure, allergic reactions, or rejection of biological grafts. Implants may require replacement or revision over time. Patient selection, operator experience, and device design influence outcomes.
