Initiieringssystem

Initiieringssystem, or initiation system, is a term used to describe a mechanism or arrangement designed to start or trigger a subsequent action, event, or process. The concept spans multiple domains, including engineering, mining, and information technology. In Swedish usage the term covers both non-explosive triggers and safety-critical initiation devices and software triggers.

In engineering and manufacturing, initiation systems may activate engines, start automated sequences, or engage safety interlocks. In mining and construction, they are used to detonate charges in a controlled sequence, often with multiple initiators and timing controls. In IT and automation, initiation occurs when an event or signal starts a workflow, job, or process.

Typical components include an initiator, a transmission path, and a controlled output. Types range from electrical and electronic initiators, including programmable delay initiators, to mechanical triggers and, in certain industrial contexts, chemical or explosive initiators. The design emphasizes reliability, redundancy, and safety.

Safety and regulation: Because initiation systems can have significant safety implications, their use is governed by standards and laws, requiring proper risk assessment, training, and oversight. Documentation, testing, and maintenance are common requirements.
