Implantatplanlægning is the Danish term for dental implant planning. It is a critical phase in the process of surgically placing dental implants, which are artificial tooth roots used to support prosthetic teeth. The planning stage involves a thorough evaluation of the patient's oral health, bone density, and anatomical structures to ensure the successful and safe placement of the implant.

This process typically begins with a comprehensive clinical examination. Dentists assess the patient's medical history, focusing on any conditions that might affect healing or implant success, such as diabetes or autoimmune diseases. They also examine the existing dentition, gum health, and the overall bite. Radiographic imaging is a cornerstone of implantatplanlægning. Standard X-rays, such as periapical and bitewing radiographs, provide initial insights. However, for precise planning, a three-dimensional imaging technique like a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan is often employed. CBCT scans offer detailed views of the jawbone, nerves, sinuses, and the proposed implant site, allowing for accurate measurement and visualization.

Based on the clinical and radiographic findings, the dental professional determines the optimal position, size, and type of implant. Factors such as the available bone volume, the proximity of vital anatomical structures like nerves and sinuses, and the planned prosthetic restoration are carefully considered. In some cases, implantatplanlægning may also involve the creation of surgical guides, which are custom-made templates that help direct the implant drill with high precision during surgery.
