Clinical features attributed to immunbristsyndrom generally overlap with those of established immunodeficiency disorders. Typical signs include recurrent infections (especially of the ears, sinuses, and lungs), chronic or unusual infections, delayed growth or development in children, and impaired wound healing. Secondary immunodeficiencies arising from malnutrition, HIV infection, chronic diseases, or immunosuppressive therapy may be described under this umbrella; primary immunodeficiencies such as SCID or common variable immunodeficiency are more precisely diagnosed with targeted testing.

Tests may include complete blood count with differential, quantitative immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM), analysis of lymphocyte subsets (eg, CD4, CD8, CD19, NK cells), assessment of vaccine-specific antibody responses, and HIV testing. In uncertain cases or when a primary immunodeficiency is suspected, genetic testing can be informative.

Management is individualized and depends on the underlying cause. Approaches may include antimicrobial prophylaxis, immunoglobulin replacement therapy for humoral deficiencies, treatment of active infections, vaccination planning, and consideration of definitive therapies for certain primary immunodeficiencies (such as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or gene therapy). The prognosis is highly variable and improves with accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
