Ilmanpoistoventtiili (engl. exhaust valve) is a device used in ventilation systems to expel air from a building or enclosure, maintaining air pressure balance and ensuring removal of contaminants, heat, and moisture. The primary purpose of exhaust valves is to control the flow of air that leaves through ducts. In many countries, building codes mandate specific minimum airflow rates for bathrooms, kitchens, and mechanical rooms, and insist that exhaust valves be regularly inspected and cleaned to prevent malfunctions. Proper maintenance includes cleaning the valve plate and checking for wear in the actuator. When an exhaust valve fails, it can lead to excess humidity, mold growth, decreased indoor air quality, and overheating of equipment.

In larger industrial settings, exhaust valves form part of process ventilation, exhaust hoods, and safety interlocks that remove hazardous vapors and fumes. They are an essential component of fire protection systems, enabling smoke extraction in emergencies.
