Ideakorttien

Ideakortit, or idea cards, are a set of small cards used to prompt ideas, solutions, or new approaches to a problem. Each card typically presents a prompt, constraint, or cue, which can be textual or visual. The cards are designed to spark divergent thinking and to make brainstorming more structured and inclusive.

Idea cards may cover different content areas, and sets are often color coded by category such as problem framing, user perspective, technology, or market context. Some cards include spaces for quick notes or sketches, encouraging participants to annotate ideas on the spot.

Usage often involves drawing one or more cards and generating ideas that address the prompts. Cards can be used individually or in teams, laid out for combination, and reshuffled between rounds to explore different directions. Facilitators may introduce methods such as rapid ideation rounds or then use dot voting to select promising concepts.

Variants and applications include problem-framing cards, constraint cards that impose limits (time, budget, resources), persona or user-journey cards to ground ideas in user needs, and solution or feature cards to suggest concrete responses. Ideakorttien are widely used in education, design thinking workshops, and corporate innovation programs to support creative collaboration.

Limitations include dependence on prompt quality and facilitator skill; without proper framing, ideas may remain shallow. They are most effective when combined with evaluation, prototyping, or decision-making processes. The concept reflects broader card-based creativity tools and has been adopted in Finnish pedagogy and business contexts as a flexible approach to collaborative problem solving.
