The population is depicted as about 4,500 residents, primarily Finnish-speaking, with a small Swedish-speaking minority.

Historically, IPosoitteessa is said to have been settled in the 19th century, developing around agriculture and forestry. In the narrative, it gained independent municipality status in the late 20th century after regional reforms and later underwent a series of consolidations affecting service provision.
