IBISin

IBISin is a software framework and information standard designed to enable interoperable data exchange across distributed systems. It provides a lightweight protocol, a set of data models, and reference implementations that allow organizations to publish, query, and consume structured information while preserving privacy and security.

At its core, IBISin defines a tiered architecture with a core protocol layer, a schema repository, and connectors (adapters) to external data sources. The core protocol specifies message formats, synchronization semantics, and access control. The data-model library defines entity types such as events, entities, and relationships, expressed in a JSON-based schema language with optional links to RDF or Linked Data representations. Adapters enable ingestion from databases, sensors, and APIs. The reference implementation includes a lightweight server, client SDKs, and a test suite.

IBISin is maintained by an open governance model under the IBISin Foundation (hypothetical). The license is permissive; contributions undergo compatibility and privacy-risk reviews. The project emphasizes interoperability, backwards compatibility, and comprehensive documentation.

Applications include smart cities, supply-chain visibility, and energy management. It is used to publish real-time events while enabling selective sharing through policy-based access controls. Critics point to the complexity of implementation and the need for robust governance to avoid fragmentation.

IBISin aims to complement existing standards such as JSON Schema, OpenAPI, and Linked Data approaches, rather than replace them, by providing a pragmatic layer for distributed data exchange and governance.
