Hozzáférhetőségben refers to the principles and practices of designing environments, products, services, and information systems that can be used by people with a wide range of abilities, including those with disabilities. The goal is to eliminate barriers that hinder participation, information access, and the ability to perform tasks. Accessibility involves considerations for visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and sensory impairments.

Key guidelines such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) set out specific criteria for digital content, including text alternatives for images, keyboard‑navigable interfaces, sufficient color contrast, and captions for audio and video. In printed materials, accessible design includes clear typography, logical heading structures, and the use of Braille or large print formats. Physical spaces also fall under accessibility regulations, requiring features like ramps, tactile signage, audible alarm systems, and accessible restrooms.

Legal frameworks across the globe mandate accessibility. In the United States, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act set standards. The European Union enforces the European Accessibility Act and the EN 301 549 standard for digital accessibility. Many countries also require that public transport, housing, and telecommunications services meet specific accessibility criteria.

Technology has become a catalyst for advancing accessibility. Assistive technologies—such as screen readers, voice‑control applications, and augmentative communication devices—enable users with disabilities to interact with digital content. Continual development of inclusive design practices, user testing with diverse populations, and adherence to international standards promote wider inclusion.

By integrating accessibility considerations into the design, development, and deployment stages, organizations can provide equitable experiences, comply with legal obligations, and ultimately reach broader audiences.
