Hotend
The hot end is the portion of a fused-deposition 3D printer responsible for melting and extruding filament. It generally consists of a heater cartridge, a temperature sensor, a heater block, a heat break, a nozzle, and often an active cooling system on the cold side to maintain a thermal barrier. Filament enters through the cold end, is melted in the heated region, and is deposited through the nozzle.
Operation: The printer heats the heater block to the target temperature for the chosen filament. The thermistor
Design and materials: All-metal hotends use a metal heat break and no PTFE in the hot zone
Operating considerations: Typical printing temperatures range from about 180–260°C for common filaments, and higher for specialty
Safety and compatibility: Hot ends reach temperatures capable of causing burns; always power down before servicing
