Hofreitschule

The Hofreitschule, more commonly known as the Spanish Riding School, is a historic equestrian institution in Vienna, Austria. It is dedicated to the practice of classical dressage and the training of Lipizzaner horses, and it operates within the Hofburg Palace complex, including the Winterreitschule, the traditional venue for its performances and training.

The school traces its roots to the 16th century, when the Habsburg court established a riding academy

The horses used by the school are Lipizzaners, a breed originating from Lipizza (now Lipica, near Trieste).

The Hofreitschule’s repertoire reflects the classical dressage tradition, encompassing movements from basic gaits to advanced exercises

As a living cultural institution, the Hofreitschule offers daily public training sessions and tours. It remains
