Herausgeben

Herausgeben is a German verb with several closely related meanings centered on the act of making something available to others. The verb is separable, so in present tense forms you will often see phrases like ich gebe … heraus, du gibst … heraus, er gibt … heraus. The past participle is herausgegeben. Typical senses include publishing or issuing a publication, distributing or handing out something, and revealing or releasing information.

The most common use is to publish or issue a work or document. This includes books, newspapers, magazines, or official publications. For example, der Verlag gibt das Buch nächsten Monat heraus, meaning the publisher will publish the book next month. In media and organizational contexts, eine Zeitung oder eine Broschüre herausgeben is standard, as is die Regierung gibt eine Stellungnahme heraus, meaning a statement is issued.
