Helikopterista

Helikopterista is a term used in several languages to denote a person who operates helicopters. A helikopterista is trained to pilot rotary-wing aircraft and may perform a range of tasks depending on the employment context, including passenger and cargo transport, aerial work, and specialized operations such as search and rescue or medical evacuation.

Entry typically requires a helicopter pilot license appropriate to the jurisdiction, such as a private pilot license for helicopters (PPL(H)) and progression to a commercial license (CPL(H)) or airline transport license (ATPL(H)). Additional ratings may include instrument helicopter rating (IR(H)) and type ratings for specific helicopter models. Medical fitness is required, with medical certificates varying by country, and flight hours accumulate through training and solo flying. For many roles, applicants build hundreds to thousands of flight hours before taking on high-responsibility positions.

Helikopteristas work across civil aviation and specialized services, including air ambulance, search and rescue, police or border patrol, firefighting, offshore transportation, logging, aerial photography, and tourism. They may operate from bases near urban centers, remote facilities, or at offshore platforms, often under demanding weather conditions and variable schedules.
