Hanggai

Hanggai is a traditional Chinese musical instrument known for its distinctive sound and cultural significance. It belongs to the family of plucked string instruments, specifically a type of zither. The name "Hanggai" translates to "hanging bridge," which refers to its unique design where the strings are stretched over a curved wooden frame, resembling a bridge.

The instrument typically features a rectangular wooden body with a hollow soundbox, often made from materials such as paulownia wood. The strings, usually made of silk or nylon, are plucked with a plectrum or fingers, producing a soft, resonant tone. Hanggai is commonly used in folk music and traditional performances, particularly in regions like Sichuan, Chongqing, and parts of Guizhou in China.
