Hüperglükeemiaks

Hüperglükeemiaks refers to a medical condition characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. This condition is most commonly associated with diabetes mellitus, a chronic metabolic disorder. When the body does not produce enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it produces, glucose builds up in the bloodstream instead of being absorbed by cells for energy.

Several factors can contribute to hyperglycemia. In individuals with diabetes, poor management of the condition, such as insufficient insulin dosage, dietary indiscretions, or lack of physical activity, can lead to elevated blood sugar. Stress, illness, certain medications like corticosteroids, and hormonal imbalances can also trigger hyperglycemia in both diabetic and non-diabetic individuals.

The symptoms of hyperglycemia can develop gradually and may include increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, fatigue, and slow-healing sores. If left untreated, chronic hyperglycemia can lead to serious long-term complications affecting various organs, including the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and cardiovascular system. Diagnosis is typically made through blood glucose tests, such as fasting plasma glucose or random plasma glucose measurements. Management involves lifestyle modifications, medication, and regular monitoring of blood glucose levels.
