Grayfjord

Grayfjord is a coastal town and fjord situated on the eastern shore of the Nordhaven coastline. The fjord, which shares its name with the town, is a glacially carved inlet that extends several kilometers inland, featuring steep rocky walls and waters commonly shrouded in mist.

Geography and environment: The town lies at the head of the fjord, surrounded by conifer forests and rolling hills. The climate is maritime with cool summers and mild winters; frequent fog; rich marine ecosystems.

History: The area was settled in the early 18th century as a fishing outpost. It grew into a small port serving nearby timber stands. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it expanded shipyards and a fish processing plant. In recent decades, tourism and aquaculture have become important.

Economy: The local economy centers on fishing, salmon aquaculture, ship services, and tourism. The harbor provides docking facilities for fishing vessels and tourist boats.

Demographics and governance: Grayfjord is administratively part of Nordhaven's coastal district and is governed by a municipal council. The population is around 4,500 to 5,000 residents. The community is predominantly Nordhavenian-speaking with a minority of speakers of regional dialects.

Notable features: The Grayfjord Lighthouse marks the entrance to the harbor; Graystone Cliff is a prominent geological feature; Grayfjord Harbor provides ferries to nearby communities.

Culture and events: The town hosts the annual Grayfjord Seabreeze Festival, highlighting maritime heritage, music, and local cuisine. A small maritime museum preserves fishing history and shipbuilding.
