Gietvloer

Gietvloer is a Dutch term meaning "poured floor" and refers to a seamless, liquid-applied floor coating that cures into a continuous surface. Common materials used for gietvloeren include epoxy resins, polyurethane systems, and cementitious self-leveling screeds. These floors are available in a wide range of colors and finishes, from high-gloss to matte, and can incorporate decorative effects such as metallic swirls or embedded aggregates.

Properties of gietvloeren include high abrasion resistance, ease of cleaning, and resistance to many chemicals and liquids, making them suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial environments. They provide a smooth, monolithic surface without joints, which reduces places for dirt or bacteria to accumulate and can be advantageous in healthcare, retail, and food-processing settings.

Installation requires careful substrate preparation: the underlying concrete must be dry, clean, and often mechanically abraded or primed to ensure adhesion. Curing times vary by system and ambient conditions; full mechanical strength may take several days. Some resin systems are sensitive to moisture or UV exposure and may yellow or delaminate if used improperly.

Advantages of gietvloeren include aesthetic versatility and durability; disadvantages include sensitivity to substrate moisture, potential surface scratching, and variable cost depending on material and finishing. Maintenance is generally simple—regular sweeping and mopping—and localized repairs are possible but may be visible. Some formulations are low-VOC, while others require adequate ventilation during application.
