The most common settings include prong (claw) settings, where slender metal projections grip the girdle; bezel settings, where a metal rim encircles the stone; channel settings, where stones are held in a groove between two metal walls; pavé settings, where many small stones are set closely together with tiny beads or claws to create a continuous surface; tension settings, where the stone is held by the surrounding metal without a bottom seat; and flush settings, where the stone sits level with the metal surface.
