Frekvensfasedetection is a signal processing technique used to determine the frequency and phase of an incoming signal. It is a crucial component in many communication systems, radar, and sonar applications, where accurate knowledge of the signal's characteristics is essential for demodulation, tracking, and identification.

The core principle behind frequency phase detection involves comparing the incoming signal with a reference signal. This comparison can be achieved through various methods, often employing mixers or multipliers. When the incoming signal and the reference signal are mixed, the output contains terms related to the sum and difference of their frequencies. By filtering out the sum frequency, the difference frequency, which is directly related to the frequency deviation of the incoming signal, can be isolated.

Phase detection is typically achieved by observing the output of the mixer at a specific point in time or by integrating the output over a period. The phase difference between the incoming signal and the reference signal directly influences the amplitude or polarity of the mixer's output. More sophisticated techniques might involve using phase-locked loops (PLLs) which create a feedback system to lock the reference signal's frequency and phase to that of the incoming signal, providing highly accurate measurements.
