Freiluftdisplays

Freiluftdisplays are display devices designed for outdoor environments, intended to convey digital content to pedestrians and motorists. They are used for advertising, information signage, and event displays. The dominant technology is outdoor LED, though large-format outdoor LCD panels are employed in some applications. Outdoor LED displays are built from modular panels assembled into a video wall or billboard and housed in weatherproof enclosures. They are designed to withstand rain, dust, temperature extremes, and wind, and many models offer front or rear service access.

Key specifications include high brightness and wide viewing angles to combat ambient light, with daytime brightness measured in thousands of nits. They provide automatic brightness adjustment and color calibration, and are protected against water and dust with IP-rated housings (commonly IP65 or higher). They operate over wide temperature ranges and include thermal management systems. LED lifetime is typically on the order of tens of thousands to over 100,000 hours, depending on technology and usage. Durability, vandal resistance, and robust cabling are important considerations for outdoor deployments.

Operation and management: Content is controlled by a digital signage content management system (CMS) and can include schedules, dynamic data feeds, and video. Displays support remote monitoring, diagnostics, and software updates, often over cellular or wired networks. Power and data connections are designed to be weatherproof, and modular design allows field servicing of individual panels.

Applications and deployment: Freiluftdisplays are widely used in outdoor advertising, stadiums and arenas, transit and transportation hubs, shopping districts, and city centers. They can be configured as single units, curved facades, or large-scale video walls.

Regulatory and safety: Installations must meet electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and environmental standards, with certifications such as CE and UL where applicable. Compliance with IP ratings and weather protection standards is typical.
