Fotpunktene

Fotpunktene is a Norwegian contemporary art project and collective focused on photography in public space. Based in Oslo, it operates in other Norwegian cities and occasionally internationally.

The project originated from a group of freelance photographers who sought to explore how everyday urban environments can be read through photography, rather than relying on traditional landmarks. The name, translating roughly as "the photo points" or "photographic footpoints," signals an interest in the points where pedestrians meet the urban terrain and where photographs can be made in situ.

Its activities include organized photowalks, open studio events, site-specific installations, and a small publishing program. Fotpunktene collaborates with museums, galleries, and municipalities to present works in public spaces, often integrating light, text, and natural or built surroundings. The collective favors accessible processes, community participation, and creative reuse of ordinary city corners to generate dialog about memory, space, and perception.

The reception has been mixed but generally positive within the Norwegian photography community, praised for engaging non-professional photographers and for bringing urban spaces into artistic dialogue. Critics have noted the challenges of securing permissions, rights management for street photography, and ensuring long-term preservation of outdoor works.
