Formpäevik

Formpäevik is a term used in Estonian education to refer to a class diary kept by teachers to record daily events for a form (class). Historically, it was a bound notebook used by the homeroom teacher to track attendance, homework, tests, and noteworthy incidents, and to communicate with parents. The concept is closely related to klassipäevik, a diary used for similar purposes in the classroom.

A formpäevik typically contains daily entries with date, attendance (present, excused, absence), late arrivals, and early departures; sections for assigned homework and upcoming tests; short messages to guardians; and brief remarks about student progress, behavior, or health. Some editions include a teacher’s signature or a parent acknowledgment field. In many schools, the diary also serves as a planning tool, linking the timetable and study plan with daily tasks.

With the rise of digital administration, many schools have moved formpäevik records to online platforms, making entries accessible to parents and other teachers and allowing easier aggregation of data. However, some institutions continue to use paper diaries, particularly in younger grades or in resource-constrained contexts.
