Remarks are statements or observations about a subject. As a noun, a remark is a comment, observation, or note; as a verb, to remark means to say something about something or to notice something. The term stems from the French remarquer, meaning to notice or observe.

Remarks serve to convey information, express evaluation, or draw attention to a detail. They can be supportive, critical, or neutral, and may be direct (He remarked, '...') or indirect (It was remarked that the project was progressing slowly).

In everyday language, remarks appear in conversations, letters, reports, and journals.
