FirePro

FirePro is a brand of professional graphics processing units developed by AMD, originally stemming from ATI Technologies. Designed for workstation use, FirePro GPUs target professional applications such as computer-aided design, 3D rendering, video production, and scientific visualization. They emphasize driver reliability, independent software vendor certifications, and features needed for precision graphics, multi-display setups, and large memory workflows, setting them apart from consumer gaming graphics cards.

The FirePro lineup encompassed both desktop and mobile workstation GPUs, marketed for use in production environments. These cards provided support and optimizations for professional graphics APIs and software used in CAD, digital content creation, and visualization. Certifications from major software vendors ensured compatibility and stability within established workflows.

In the mid- to late-2010s, AMD reorganized its professional graphics branding and gradually replaced FirePro with the Radeon Pro designation. The transition linked professional graphics more closely with AMD’s Radeon brand while preserving the same goals of certified drivers, reliability, and performance for workstation tasks. As a result, FirePro branding was phased out in favor of Radeon Pro, though older FirePro hardware and software continued to operate and receive support for some time.

Today, AMD markets its professional graphics through the Radeon Pro line, continuing the emphasis on ISV certifications, stability, and performance for professional workloads. FirePro remains a historical branding reference within the evolution of AMD’s professional GPUs.
