Filzpads

Filzpads, commonly referred to as felt pads, are small, soft discs or squares made from compressed felt. They are used primarily to protect surfaces from contact with furniture, appliances, or other objects, to dampen noise, and to prevent slipping. Filzpads may be natural wool felt or synthetic felt and can come with a self-adhesive backing or as loose pads.

Sizes and shapes vary; typical diameters range from 6 to 25 millimeters and thicknesses from 1 to 3 millimeters. Shapes include round, square, or rectangular patches. Finishes range from natural gray or beige to colored variants. Some products are designed specifically for hardwood floors or sensitive surfaces, offering denser felt or higher weight ratings.

Applications include protecting hardwood and other floor surfaces from scratches by chair and table legs, doors, and decorative items; reducing noise and vibration from objects that rest on hard surfaces; and serving as padding in crafts and packaging.

Installation and maintenance are straightforward: clean the surface before applying, choose a pad size that adequately distributes weight, and press firmly to adhere if the pad has a self-adhesive backing. Replace pads when worn, torn, or clogged with debris. Adhesive-backed pads can leave residue or pull finishes if removed. Non-adhesive pads require mounting with glue or simply sit under items.

Limitations include that not all pads are suitable for every surface or load. Adhesive types may not stick well on dusty, oily, or porous surfaces, and pads on carpets may compress or shift over time. Over the long term, felt can wear and accumulate dirt, reducing protective effectiveness.
