Fiberkomposit

Fiberkomposit is a material made from fibers embedded in a matrix. The fibers provide strength and stiffness, while the matrix holds the fibers together and transfers stress between them. Common fiber materials include glass, carbon, and aramid. The matrix is typically a polymer resin, such as epoxy or polyester. Fiberkomposit materials offer a combination of high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and design flexibility, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.

These materials are manufactured through various processes, including hand layup, spray-up, filament winding, and pultrusion. The choice of manufacturing method depends on the desired part shape, production volume, and material properties. In hand layup, workers manually place layers of fiber reinforcement into a mold and saturate them with resin. Spray-up involves spraying chopped fibers and resin simultaneously onto a mold surface. Filament winding is used to create cylindrical or spherical parts by winding resin-impregnated fibers around a mandrel. Pultrusion is a continuous process for producing constant cross-section profiles.

Fiberkomposit finds extensive use in industries such as aerospace, automotive, marine, construction, and sports equipment. In aerospace, their lightweight and high strength are crucial for aircraft components. The automotive industry utilizes them for body panels and structural parts to improve fuel efficiency.
