FastPass

FastPass was a virtual queuing system used at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Introduced in 1999, its primary purpose was to reduce guest wait times for popular attractions. Instead of physically waiting in line, guests could obtain a FastPass ticket from a distribution kiosk located near the attraction entrance. This ticket would indicate a specific return time window. Guests could then enjoy other park activities and return to the attraction within their designated window to enter a much shorter queue.

There were two versions of the system: the original paper-based FastPass and the later FastPass+. FastPass+ integrated with the MagicBand wearable technology and allowed guests to reserve return times in advance via the My Disney Experience app. This allowed for more strategic planning of a park day. FastPass and FastPass+ were generally included with park admission, though specific availability and redemption rules applied. The system aimed to improve guest satisfaction by offering more flexibility and reducing perceived wait times.

In August 2021, Disney announced the discontinuation of the FastPass and FastPass+ systems across all its theme parks. This change was made to transition to a new paid service called Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane selections, which offered similar benefits but required an additional purchase. The discontinuation marked the end of an era for a system that had been a staple of the Disney theme park experience for over two decades.
