Fahrzeugsteuergeräte
Fahrzeugsteuergeräte, often abbreviated as ECUs (Electronic Control Units), are essential electronic systems within modern vehicles that manage and control various functions. These compact computers are responsible for a wide range of operations, from the engine's performance and emissions to safety systems like anti-lock brakes and airbags. Each ECU is typically dedicated to a specific system or a group of related functions. For instance, an engine control module (ECM) regulates fuel injection, ignition timing, and emissions control. Similarly, a transmission control module (TCM) manages gear shifting in automatic transmissions.
The complexity of vehicles has led to an increasing number of ECUs, sometimes numbering in the dozens.
