FRITZOS

FRITZ!OS is the Linux-based firmware that powers AVM's FRITZ!Box family of home routers. Developed by AVM GmbH, FRITZ!OS combines the device’s operating system, user interface, and built-in services into a single software package that is updated regularly to add features, improve performance, and address security.

The software provides a web-based management interface commonly accessed through the address fritz.box, as well as companion mobile apps for iOS and Android. Through the interface, users configure wireless networks, security settings, parental controls, guest access, and other router functions. FRITZ!OS also supports remote access to the home network via MyFRITZ! and various cloud and mobile integration options.

Key functionality includes dual-band Wi-Fi support, firewall protection, VPN capabilities, dynamic DNS, and USB-based network services such as file sharing, printer sharing, and media serving. The firmware integrates telephony features (VoIP, and depending on hardware, analog/ISDN lines and DECT cordless phones) and media features like a DLNA/UPnP media server.

Networking and smart home features are central to FRITZ!OS. Many FRITZ!Box models support mesh networking through Fritz!Mesh, enabling seamless expansion with compatible repeaters and devices. Smart Home capabilities use DECT for compatible devices and, on newer setups, can incorporate Zigbee via an optional USB stick.

Updates are provided by AVM on a regular schedule to introduce new capabilities, improve stability, and enhance security. FRITZ!OS is designed to be user-friendly for non-specialists while offering advanced configuration options for power users.
