FIFAs

FIFAs is not a single, formally recognized organization in international football. The term is sometimes used informally to refer to multiple football federations that share the acronym F I F A, or more commonly to FIFA member associations as a group. In standard usage, the organization is FIFA, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, the international governing body of football.

FIFA administers international competitions, sets global regulations in coordination with its member associations, and funds development programs. It oversees the FIFA World Cup and other competitions in men’s, women’s, futsal, and beach soccer. FIFA’s work is carried out by the Congress, the FIFA Council, and various standing and disciplinary committees.

As of 2024, FIFA has 211 member associations organized into six continental confederations: AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), CONCACAF (North and Central America and the Caribbean), CONMEBOL (South America), OFC (Oceania), and UEFA (Europe). Each member is the national football association responsible for organizing the sport within its country and selecting national teams. Membership supports international match calendars, referee development, anti-doping enforcement, and development grants.

The use of the plural FIFAs is uncommon in formal contexts; when clarity is required, sources refer to FIFA member associations or national football associations (NFAs) rather than “FIFAs.”
