Euroscepticism

Euroscepticism refers to criticism of or opposition to the European Union (EU) and its policies, institutions, or expansion. The term encompasses a broad spectrum of views, ranging from moderate concerns about specific EU initiatives to outright rejection of European integration. Eurosceptic perspectives often stem from differing national interests, economic considerations, cultural identity, or skepticism about the effectiveness of supranational governance.

The origins of Euroscepticism can be traced back to the early stages of European integration, with some nations expressing reservations about surrendering sovereignty to a central authority. Over time, the movement has gained prominence in various EU member states, particularly during periods of economic crisis, such as the 2008 financial downturn and the subsequent Eurozone debt crisis.
