Etäaistimisessa, often translated as remote sensing, is the science and art of obtaining information about an object or phenomenon without making physical contact. In Finnish, the term specifically refers to the process of acquiring data through sensors that are not in direct contact with the subject being studied. This is most commonly applied to Earth observation, where sensors mounted on satellites, aircraft, or drones capture electromagnetic radiation reflected or emitted by the Earth's surface.
