Equivalense

Equivalense is not a standard English term on its own. In most contexts, the related concepts are known as equivalence or equivalency, and equivalence is the spelling most commonly used. The word generally denotes a state or relation in which two things are considered equal in value, function, meaning, or worth under a given criterion. Because equivalence is more widely recognized, “equivalense” may appear as a misspelling or as a term adapted in non-English languages.

In mathematics, an equivalence relation partitions a set into equivalence classes, where elements are related in a way that is reflexive, symmetric, and transitive. The resulting classes group elements that are considered interchangeable for the given purpose. A familiar example is congruence of integers modulo n, which partitions the integers into residue classes.

In logic, two statements are logically equivalent if each entails the other; this is often written as p if and only if q. In chemistry, chemical equivalence refers to the concept that certain elements or compounds participate in reactions in fixed proportions, with the equivalence point in a titration indicating neutralization.

In computing and linguistics, equivalence concerns the preservation of meaning or behavior across transformations, such as program equivalence (two programs produce the same outputs for all inputs) or semantic equivalence in translation.
