It sits at the marshy delta where the Serin River meets the Sea of Sable and is commonly portrayed as a bustling trading hub. Etymologies of the name vary by source, though it is often linked to end and mass in in-world linguistics.

The town occupies a tidal plain protected by a seawall. Canals and sluices manage water, while foggy mornings and nutrient-rich marshes shape daily life. The climate is temperate, with wet winters and dry summers; storm surges make harbor maintenance a regular concern.
