Dämpningsförlopp refers to the process by which oscillations or vibrations decrease in amplitude over time. This phenomenon occurs in many physical systems, from simple pendulums to complex mechanical structures and electrical circuits. The reduction in amplitude is due to energy dissipation, where the vibrational energy is converted into other forms, most commonly heat, due to friction or resistance.

The behavior of a dämpningsförlopp can be categorized into three main types: undamped, underdamped, and overdamped. Undamped oscillations continue indefinitely with constant amplitude, which is an idealized scenario rarely found in real-world systems. The rate at which oscillations decay is determined by the damping coefficient of the system. A higher damping coefficient leads to a faster decay of amplitude.
