Ductmounted

Duct-mounted refers to equipment or components that are installed in or directly on HVAC ductwork in order to treat, monitor, or control the air as it flows through a building’s duct system. This approach places the device within the air distribution path, rather than in a separate room or mechanical space, and is commonly used to save floor space and enable targeted air conditioning, purification, or sensing.

Common duct-mounted devices include inline fans or blowers, heating or cooling coils located inside the duct, humidifiers or dehumidifiers integrated into the duct, UV-C irradiation modules for air disinfection, and filtration modules containing high-efficiency filters. Duct-mounted sensors and actuators can also be installed to monitor humidity, temperature, pressure, or air quality and to control fans, dampers, or other equipment through building automation systems.

Design and installation considerations include accommodating pressure drop, noise, and vibration, as well as ensuring adequate access for maintenance. Proper sealing, insulation, and corrosion protection are important in humid or high-traffic duct runs. Electrical power, control wiring, and compatibility with existing BAS or control strategies must be planned. Compliance with relevant standards and codes (such as ASHRAE guidelines, NFPA provisions, and equipment UL listings) is commonly required.

Applications span commercial buildings, hospitals, cleanrooms, laboratories, data centers, and industrial facilities where space constraints, rapid installation, or localized air treatment are priorities. While duct-mounted solutions can improve performance and flexibility, they may introduce maintenance challenges and pressure losses that require careful design and regular upkeep.
