The approach aims to standardize decisions, improve match quality, and accelerate filling roles by using a ranked pool and a transparent selection sequence.

Process typically involves building a candidate pool (including internal candidates and external applicants), defining scoring criteria and competency models, establishing a draft order, and conducting rounds of selection where hiring managers or committees choose candidates. The draft order can be based on anticipated demand, skill gaps, or performance metrics. Internal and external drafthiring are common variants. Internal drafts move current employees into new roles or promotions using the same ranking mechanism, while external drafts recruit from a curated external pool, such as applicants from a partner network. Potential drawbacks include creating unnecessary competition, potentially overlooking unconventional talent, and the risk of reduced diversity if the pool lacks breadth.
