Displaypanel is a term used to describe the front-facing component of a display device that renders visual information. It typically comprises the active display layer (such as LCD, OLED, or MicroLED), a backplane with driving electronics, color filters, polarizers, and a cover glass, and often includes a backlight unit in LCD variants. The panel interfaces with host controllers and timing controllers to drive pixels and manage color, brightness, and refresh rate.

Core technologies include LCD panels using twisted nematic or IPS/VA architectures; OLED panels where organic emitters serve as light sources; and emerging MicroLED panels with inorganic emitters. Backplanes are usually implemented as thin-film transistors (TFTs). In LCDs, a backlight provides illumination; in OLEDs, light is emitted by the pixels themselves.

Panels are produced in various formats and sizes for televisions, computer monitors, smartphones, and embedded devices. Common form factors include flat panels with touch sensors integrated and non-touch variants. Interfaces for panel communication include LVDS, eDP, MIPI CSI/DSI, and others. Color performance is measured in brightness, contrast ratio, color gamut, viewing angle, and response time.

Manufacturing emphasizes yield, color calibration, and uniformity. Markets frequently partition by technology and usage, with high-end panels prioritizing HDR performance and wide color gamut. Industry trends include higher resolutions, higher refresh rates, energy efficiency, and integration with touch and antenna functions.
