Dielektrikutest

Dielektrikutest, or dielectric testing, refers to a group of electrical tests designed to assess the insulating properties of dielectric materials and insulation systems used in electrical equipment. The primary goal is to verify that insulation can withstand expected operating voltages and transient stresses without experiencing dielectric breakdown, excessive leakage, or deterioration that could compromise safety or performance.

Common tests include the dielectric strength test (also called a high-potential or hipot test), which applies a high voltage across insulation for a defined period; an insulation-resistance or megohm test, which measures leakage current at a specified voltage; partial-discharge testing, used to detect defects in insulation; and dissipation-factor (tan delta) testing, which measures dielectric losses in insulating media. In some cases surge or impulse tests are used to simulate lightning or switching transients. Tests may be conducted on cables, transformers, motors, capacitors, insulators, and complete equipment assemblies.

Conducted during manufacturing, commissioning, or routine maintenance, dielektrikutest results are compared with standards or manufacturer specifications. Environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, aging, and contamination can influence outcomes, so tests are performed under controlled conditions and with appropriate safety measures. Dielectric testing is a key part of quality control and safety certification, helping to ensure reliable operation and reduce electrical shock or fire hazards, while acknowledging that no test can perfectly predict long-term performance.

Standards from IEC, UL, ISO, and others define test methods, voltage levels, durations, and acceptance criteria for different equipment and materials.
