Datacenterinfrastruktur refers to the set of physical and logical resources that support a data center’s operation. It encompasses the IT equipment, facility systems, and management tools that together enable compute, storage, and networking services.

IT infrastructure includes servers, storage arrays, virtualization platforms and network fabric. Facility systems cover power supply and distribution (grid connection, transformers, uninterruptible power supplies, diesel generators, power distribution units), cooling (CRAC units, chillers, cooling towers, air containment), fire suppression and environmental monitoring, and the physical layout (racks, cable management, raised floors).

Management and operations involve data center infrastructure management (DCIM), telemetry, asset and change management, capacity planning, and automation. Redundancy and reliability are specified by design approaches such as N, N+1, or 2N configurations, and by adherence to recognized standards.

Power and cooling efficiency are central concerns; common metrics include power usage effectiveness (PUE). Strategies to improve efficiency include hot aisle and cold aisle containment, free cooling where climate permits, and efficient equipment selection and layout. Security encompasses physical access control, surveillance, and incident response, with compliance considerations including ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS, and industry-specific regulations. Design and assessment guidelines are provided by standards such as TIA-942 and Uptime Institute tier classifications.

Operational practices emphasize DCIM-based monitoring, predictive maintenance, and disaster recovery planning. Capacity planning and change management help ensure scalability and resilience. Emerging trends influence datacenterinfrastruktur, including modular data centers, edge computing, liquid cooling, and AI-driven operations to optimize performance and sustainability.
