Cortegada

Cortegada is a small island in the Ría de Arousa, off the coast of Galicia, Spain. It is part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park, a protected coastal archipelago established to conserve the region’s marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Administratively, Cortegada falls within the municipality of Vilagarcía de Arousa in the province of Pontevedra.

Geographically, the island lies near the inner estuary of the Arousa and is characterized by a relatively low, wooded landscape. The landscape is notable for its laurel forest, a relic of subtropical vegetation uncommon in continental Europe.
