Chipkontroll
Chipkontroll is a term used in several Nordic languages to describe the practice of controlling or modifying the software or hardware that governs the operation of microchips in electronic systems, most commonly in automotive engine management. In the automotive domain, chipkontroll typically refers to ECU tuning, where engine control units are adjusted to change map data such as fuel injection, ignition timing, boost pressure, and turbocharger behavior, with the aim of altering power, torque, drivability, or efficiency. Methods range from software remapping (reflashing the ECU) to hardware interventions such as piggyback controllers or standalone engine management systems, and in some cases replacement ECUs or performance chips.
The practice is used by manufacturers' performance variants, by independent tuners, and in racing or marine
Potential downsides include increased wear, altered emissions, voided warranties, and possible regulatory or insurance implications. In
