CADCAMinspection refers to the integration of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) data with measurement and inspection activities to plan, execute, and validate the quality of manufactured parts. It leverages the nominal CAD model, CAM tolerances, and tooling information to guide metrology and verify conformance throughout the production process.

The workflow typically starts with importing the CAD model and CAM data, aligning the part in a measurement coordinate system, and defining features and tolerances to be inspected. An inspection plan is generated that selects appropriate instruments, such as coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), laser scanners, or optical probes, and specifies measurement sequences. Collected data are then compared against the nominal model, with deviations reported and linked back to design intent. The process supports closed-loop quality control, enabling design or process adjustments based on measurement feedback.

Technologies involved include CMMs, portable metrology devices, 3D scanners, and metrology software that handles feature recognition, GD&T analysis, and data reporting. Data exchange standards such as STEP or IGES facilitate interoperability, while ISO 10360 family standards govern CMM performance and accuracy.

Benefits of CADCAMinspection include faster inspection cycles, improved traceability, better alignment between design and manufacturing, and reduced scrap. Challenges can include data compatibility, updating inspection plans when CAD or CAM data change, measurement uncertainty, and the need for skilled personnel.
